Vitor began his equestrian education at a very young age in his home country of Portugal. Encouraged by his father, family friends, and Master Frank Grelo, Vitor spent many years diligently pursuing his passion and established himself as an internationally known Master.

Recognizing the need for a European Classical Dressage riding school in the United States, Vitor established Sons of the Wind School of Equestrian Arts in 1997 in New Hampshire. Sons of the Wind has since moved to Merrimac, MA and opened a second facility in Loxahatchee, FL.

Vitor’s training and teaching is grounded in his philosophy: the best teachers are the horses.

From in-hand work, under saddle or on long-lines, Vitor teaches his students that while masters or trainers can share their knowledge and explain the technical aspects of riding, each rider must open themselves to feel the horse’s movements, responses and needs. Vitor strives to develop an intuitive feel in his students so that harmony between horse and rider can be achieved.

We’re delighted to share this special episode of Horses in the Morning (Episode 3759), featuring our own Vitor Silva. In this conversation, Vitor offers a glimpse into his lifelong journey with the Lusitano horse, classical dressage, and his passion for sharing this art with riders and audiences around the world.

The episode also highlights our friends at Myhre Equine Clinic, with Dr. Grant Myhre discussing their advanced MRI technology. We’re especially grateful to Dr. Myhre for sponsoring this year’s Fantasia, where Vitor will once again bring the magic of the Lusitano to the stage.

Take a listen below and get to know more about Vitor’s story and dedication to the horse.
